TTC planning repairs to drop some reduced speed zones before World Cup
Disruptions scheduled on Line 1 over next week to complete construction, repairs
The TTC is planning "essential subway infrastructure upgrades" on Line 1 between Sheppard West and St. George Stations over the next week to remove four reduced speed zones in advance of the World Cup in Toronto.
That work is happening in several locations, and includes the repair of a defective concrete slab, the installation of a new rail and the replacement of track hardware, TTC officials said in a news release Tuesday.
To allow for the construction, these subway closures are happening on Line 1 this week:
The TTC also notes that because of the Luke Combs show happening at Rogers Stadium Friday night, subway service will stop on this section of Line 1 at 12:30 a.m. Saturday and reopen at 6 a.m., with no closure set for Saturday evening.
Shuttle buses will be running during the closures.
TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said at a news conference Tuesday that he knows closures cause frustrations for riders, while thanking customers for their patience and understanding.
"We're not just simply doing this for today. We're doing this to strengthen the system ahead of FIFA, and more importantly, for the long-term future of our network."
