Thunderstorm watch in effect for Ottawa and Gatineau
Severe thunderstorm watch advisories have been issued for Ottawa and Gatineau by Environment Canada.
The notices posted at 5:54 p.m. and updated at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, said conditions were favourable for the development of "severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail."
Wind gusts of as much as 90 km/h and hail up to the size of two-dollar coins were possible, the advisories added.
The advisories also said the thunderstorm watch was expected to end later in the evening.
"Local utility outages are possible," it said. "Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. There is a risk of injury."
