Tyler Fletcher: Manchester United midfielder replaces Billy Gilmour in Scotland World Cup squad
Manchester United midfielder Tyler Fletcher has been called up to Scotland's World Cup squad to replace the injured Billy Gilmour.
The 19-year-old has been training with Steve Clarke's squad this week and made his international debut against Curacao when he came on at half-time to replace Gilmour, who fell to the ground with no one around him during the 4-1 victory over Dick Advocaat's side at Hampden.
A scan after the game revealed Gilmour has damaged his knee and he will now return to his club side Napoli for rehabilitation.
Fletcher, the son of former Man Utd midfielder Darren, who played 80 times for Scotland, was called up ahead of Udinese's Lennon Miller, Rangers' Connor Barron and Sparta Prague's Andy Irving.
Before flying out from Glasgow airport to Scotland's Florida training camp on Sunday afternoon, Scotland boss Steve Clarke said: "Everybody is devastated for Billy.
"It is heartbreaking when it happens at any time during the campaign but for it to happen in the send-off game is particularly tough.
"For myself, it was a really difficult night, I haven't slept much, I have to be honest.
"I had to disappoint another three players this morning again, to tell them that they had missed out.
"I just felt Tyler came into the squad this week and showed up really well, did well in the game so that was the thinking behind that one.
"Obviously devastated for Billy and also really disappointed for Lennon, Andy Irving and Connor Barron."
Scotland's first World Cup game is against Haiti in Boston on June 14.
