Trump wants to rebrand AI and has three ‘elegant’ suggestions

Donald Trump has proposed changing the name of artificial intelligence (AI) to something "far more elegant and accurate".

The US president offered three potential replacements – supreme intelligence (SI), superior intelligence (SI) or extreme intelligence (EI) – which could be used in his newly announced "AI Force" to oversee the industry.

"Many people think that the words 'Artificial Intelligence' are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence," he wrote in a post to Truth Social and X.

"A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI)."

A poll with the three options received around 300,000 votes across the two platforms, with the option 'Superior Intelligence' receiving the most votes for both.

'Supreme Intelligence' received the least amount of votes, prompting Trump to issue a second poll without it as an option.

"'Supreme Intelligence,' probably because of its relationship to the Supreme Court, is losing badly to both 'Superior' and 'Extreme Intelligence'," he wrote in a follow-up post.

"Therefore, we are going to take 'Supreme Intelligence' OUT, deleting it as a qualifier, and let you vote for the FINAL TWO."

The two terms were fairly evenly split, with superior intelligence slightly ahead in both polls.

Trump's plan to form an "AI Force" comes amid warnings from leading industry figures that the technology's development needs to be slowed down in order to allow safety measures to catch up.

The chief executives of Anthropic and OpenAI have both called for global regulation that would include measures to monitor advanced AI models before they are released.

The call to action has been rejected by Trump, who called any fears and concerns about the potential dangers of AI a "hoax".

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible industry," he wrote on social media.

"Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25 per cent of our Country's GDP."
