Ryan Reynolds and Mike Myers wildly celebrate in Toronto after Canada scores first goal in World Cup opener

Toronto was full of star power for the FIFA World Cup opening game, with celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Mike Myers not holding back their excitement for Team Canada's success.

Friday's match against Bosnia and Herzegovina saw Team Canada initially trail their Balkan competitors after Jovo Lukic scored from a corner kick in the 21st minute. But in the 78th minute, Cyle Larin levelled the score for the Canadians — and the temporarily renamed BMO Field erupted in electric energy.

Reynolds, who's been a co-owner of Wrexham FC since 2021, was spotted in the stands proudly cheering after the historic moment. Myers, who's known for his work in Austin Powers and Shrek, was also seen celebrating by clapping his hands in the air.

While the score resulted in Canada seeing a 1-1 draw against Bosnia, it's the first-ever point Canada has scored in men's FIFA World Cup play.

People on social media appreciated seeing the actors proudly cheering on their home teams.

Canadians erupt with enthusiasm after equalizer

From coast to coast, Canadian fans were also full of excitement after Team Canada pulled through with its first goal. Brampton, Ont., was also brought the enthusiasm, as locals supported Larin, who's from the city.

Other celebrities also made appearances at the Toronto venue on Friday afternoon. Artists like Alans Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Nora Fatehi and Elyanna performed during the opening ceremony; actor Will Arnett also offered a short pre-game speech, while athletes including Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Oympic gold medallist Christine Sinclair were spotted by some fans in the stands.

Canada is still searching for its first-ever win in the World Cup. The team appeared in the 1986 and 2022 World Cups but lost all six matches without a single draw.

FIFA initially ranked Canada in 30th, and it automatically qualified for the tournament since the country is a co-host. However, the team dropped to 31st after Friday's match, with Norway taking 30th place.
