Prestigious global ranking places McMaster in the top 5% of universities worldwide

McMaster has ranked in the top 5 per cent of universities globally in the prestigious 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR).

Overall, McMaster placed 116th among a field of more than 2,000 public and private universities, with top marks for research excellence and industry partnerships.

“We can all be proud that THE continues to rank McMaster among the top 5 per cent of the world’s universities, and as one of Canada’s top four,” says McMaster President and Vice-Chancellor Susan Tighe.

“McMaster has strong momentum, and our excellent global position in terms of industry impact, including investment and patents, aligns especially well with the goals set out in our new strategic plan, Bolder Together.”

The WUR evaluates 2,297 universities from 118 countries based on five pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.

The university continues to rank among the top global institutions for strong partnerships with industry, earning a perfect score of 100 in the industry impact pillar, which measures the number of patents citing McMaster research as well as research income funded by industry.

This year, McMaster moved up ten spots to 54th in the world for research quality with a score of 93.5 out of 100.

Earlier this year, McMaster ranked 18th in the world for global impact in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, which evaluates how institutions excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
