Indonesia Trials HbbTV and DVB
Indonesia’s Multi Media Training Center (STMM), state-owned broadcaster TVRI, and the Directorate of Post and Broadcasting of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) have conducted trials for HbbTV and DVB-I.
Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) and Digital Video Broadcasting-Internet (DVB-I) represent the integration of broadcasting services with the internet, as well as IP-based television service distribution. The implementation of these two technologies is expected to boost the competitiveness of existing broadcasting institutions in Indonesia, expand service innovation, and support the growth of the national broadcasting industry in the digital era.
The trials follow the announcement of a nationwide DVB-I platform set for New Zealand this year.
The trial collaboration – conducted between the transmission end at the TVRI Yogyakarta station and the receiving end at STMM Yogyakarta – was paired with a public lecture to socialise the technology among the STMM academic community. The public lecture, themed “HbbTV: Toward Interactive, Inclusive, and Sovereign Digital Broadcasting,” featured speakers Dr. Nanang Suryana, S.T, M.T, Dr. Sofian Lusa, S.E, M.Kom, Teguh Pribadi Santoso, and Mika Kanerva.
