Man drowns after canoe capsizes on Upper Rideau Lake
The man was not wearing a lifejacket, according to police.
A 24-year-old Brampton man has drowned after his canoe tipped over on Upper Rideau Lake near Smiths Falls, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers responded to a marine distress call about a capsized vessel shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, OPP wrote in a news release.
Emergency crews located the man and transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man was not wearing a lifejacket, investigators said.
