Investing In Carbon Management Technologies
Google News - TechnologyThe Australian government is supporting new and emerging carbon management technologies. These technologies can reduce emissions in hard-to-abate industries.
Through round 2 of the Carbon Capture Technologies Program (CCTP), the government is investing an additional $32.6 million in 7 projects. These projects will demonstrate a range of carbon management technologies, including:
Round 2 of the program is providing:
This project will remove atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) through ERW on agricultural land. This will advance the pathway to broader deployment in Australia.
This project will demonstrate integrated DAC and CO2 storage while establishing the Limestone Creek CCS Hub as a scalable multi-user hub for future carbon removal projects.
This project will use captured CO2 to produce low-emissions precast concrete. This technology permanently stores carbon and reduces cement use.
The project will permanently store CO₂ through mineral carbonation of steelmaking slag. This will produce carbon-embedded construction products.
This project will demonstrate a novel lithium refining process that integrates carbon capture to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate while reducing emissions.
The project will demonstrate a solar-powered hydrothermal carbonisation process. This process converts biosolids into stable hydrochar for use in waste-to-chemicals applications.
These projects do not represent the full allocation of Round 2 funding. Additional projects may be announced in due course as program processes are finalised.
Carbon management is the use of technologies and methods to manage CO2 that we cannot completely get rid of.
