Data centre wanted for Alderney, States confirms
The States of Alderney has officially said it wants to explore the idea of building a data centre on the island.
Members of the Policy and Finance Committee said its Expression of Interest (EOI) would help gauge market interest and see whether Alderney could benefit from "the growing digital infrastructure sector through the location of a data centre".
In April, an independent feasibility study found a centre would be "economically transformational" for the island.
The States said no decision had been made over proposals or where a data centre might be built, and that any plans would be subject to "detailed technical, environmental, planning and community consultation" beforehand.
