Could artificial intelligence destroy us all?
The last few weeks have brought some pretty scary headlines when it comes to AI. OpenAI admitted to hacking into government databases in Australia, and that several of its AI agents went rogue and probed three U.S. government websites over the summer.
Another AI agent tried to hack into a Canadian government website. And, of course, there was the really scary headline from a few weeks ago, when Anthropic researchers acknowledged that AI could kill us all by the end of the decade.
In this episode of the Legal Rebels Podcast, the ABA Journal’s Victor Li talks to Damien Riehl. A solutions champion at Clio—which is also an advertiser with the ABA Journal—Riehl travels the world talking about AI and how it’s changing the legal industry.
They discuss whether AI needs guardrails and, if so, how should those guardrails look and what lawyers can do to try to push AI toward a more beneficial outcome for humanity.
Damien Riehl is a solutions champion at Clio, as well as a lawyer and a technologist with experience in complex litigation, digital forensics and software development. A lawyer since 2002 and a coder since 1985, Riehl clerked for the chief judges of state and federal courts, practiced in complex litigation for over a decade, has led teams of cybersecurity and world-spanning digital forensics investigations, and has built artificial intelligence-backed legal software.
