Africa: Q2’26 Venture Pulse Report

An overview of key findings from the Q2’26 Venture Pulse Report for Africa.

VC investment in Africa remained soft in Q2’26, with VC-backed companies raising $158.9 million across 143 deals. Investor caution continued to shape the market, with capital focused primarily on more proven startups rather than companies at earlier conceptual stages.

Fintech continues to dominate, but the bar has been raised

Fintech remained the biggest driver of VC investment across Africa during Q2’26, although the funding bar continued to rise. As regulations strengthen and startups expand beyond payments into credit, savings and other regulated services, investors are placing greater emphasis on operating maturity, regulatory readiness and clear paths to scale.

Healthtech and climatetech remain areas to watch

Healthtech is maturing as investors become more comfortable with the complexities of the sector, including data protection, privacy and healthcare access challenges. Climatetech remains a long-term priority given the effects of climate change across the region, although high capital requirements and limited carbon monetization frameworks have slowed the pace of investment.

Incubators and accelerators play a growing role

Incubators and accelerators are increasingly helping startups prepare for market by assessing market viability, clarifying value propositions and supporting readiness for regulatory requirements. While this support is helping strengthen the ecosystem, access to follow-on funding remains a challenge for many startups.

Looking ahead, VC investment in Africa is expected to remain relatively concentrated as investors continue to rationalize their portfolios. Fintech is expected to remain the largest area of focus, while healthtech could see increasing investment over time. The medium- to longer-term outlook remains positive, supported by Africa’s demographics, increasing digital penetration and underserved markets.
