Foreign tourist attacked by bear in northern Japan
A foreign tourist has suffered injuries in a bear attack in Japan's northern prefecture of Aomori.
Local authorities said the man in his 30s was attacked on Saturday morning near the Kankodai observation deck overlooking Lake Towada, a popular tourist destination in Towada City.
The man was bitten on the arm and also suffered shoulder and mouth injuries. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Hachinohe City. He was reportedly conscious and his injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.
Towada City officials said the bear escaped into the mountains. The city has asked local hunters to set traps to capture the animal. Police officers are patrolling the area and urging residents and tourists to exercise caution.
