Global News Shoots The Pylons To Take Hiawatha Preferred

Global News passed foes at the pylons after a rail ride to take the $6,600 Preferred 3 Handicap Trot at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Garrett Rooney kept the mare in the three-hole while Bandura (Austin Sorrie) took the helm through fractions of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:28.2. Pocket-sitter The Great Reset (Lorne House) snuck out on the final turn, clearing the way for Global News to unleash her trot at the inside while a host of horses charged on the outside. Southview Aviator (Andy Moore) presented the biggest late threat after circling wide, but Global News dug in for a neck victory in 2:00.2. The Great Reset held third.

Global News scored her second win in her last three starts and is five-for-23 on the year for trainer Angie Carroll. Carroll of Iona, Ont. owns the seven-year-old daughter of Archangel-Going Global, who is 29-for-145 lifetime with $178,478 in bankroll. The win payout was $17.40.

Five $10,000 Prospect Series Leg 4A divisions for two-year-old pacers were sub-featured on the program. Mark The Mechanic (1:58, $2.50), driven by Austin Sorrie for Gerard Demers, the Mike Vanderkemp-trained and -driven Aussie Pharoah (1:57.2, $3.60) and Ibelieveinmiracles (1:57.3, $14.40), steered by Lorne House for Leonard Lalonde, won the colt splits. The filly divisions went to Bully Tina ($31.80) in 2:00.3 for trainer-driver Mark MacDonell and Th Penelope (1:58.1, $10.70), with MacDonell this time catch-driving for Pam Goodale.
