WORLD CUP DAILY, July 5: England & Norway advance to quarter finals

England and Norway will face each other in the quarter-finals on July 11th after defeating Mexico and Brazil, respectively, in the round of 16.

Norway’s Erling Haaland scored two goals for his team in the 79th and 90th minutes. Brazil’s Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior responded in the 100th minute, on a penalty, and scored. This was not enough, and Norway won 2-1.

England’s Jude Bellingham scored the first two goals of the match in the 36th and 38th minutes of the game. Mexico responded in the 42nd minute with a goal by J. Quinones.

Then, on a penalty in the 60th minute, England’s Harry Kane responded, increasing England’s lead to 3-1. But less than ten minutes later, in the 69th minute, Mexico’s Raul scored on a penalty, making it 3-2 for England.

Both teams fought through the remainder of the match and the 13 minutes of stoppage time, but England held on to the lead and won 3-2.

England will face Norway Saturday (July 11) in the quarter-finals.

In response to FIFA allowing USA’s Folarin Balogun to play on Monday against Belgium, the Royal Belgian Football Association released a statement.

Balogun received a red card in the previous match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Several American news media outlets, including the New York Times, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump allegedly called the head of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, and allegedly asked him to review Balogun’s suspension after he was given a red card.
