Women’s role in politics, economy key to Viksit Bharat 2047: Mandaviya
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said India must further enhance women’s participation in politics, the economy and decision-making institutions to achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Speaking at the fifth NAREDCO Mahi Real Estate Convention in the national capital, Mandaviya highlighted the crucial role women have played in India's development and stressed the need to expand their presence across key sectors.
He noted that the government has implemented several initiatives aimed at empowering women over the past 12 years and cited the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill as a major step towards increasing female representation in governance.
“Women have always contributed significantly to nation-building. Their involvement in economic activities, policymaking and political leadership must be strengthened further,” he said.
Former Union minister Smriti Irani also addressed the convention and urged NAREDCO Mahi, the women’s wing of the realtors’ body, to help more women realise their aspirations of home ownership.
She emphasised the importance of improving women’s access to housing finance and creating greater opportunities for them within the real estate industry.
“There is a need to encourage higher participation of women across the real estate ecosystem,” Irani said.
Smita Patil outlined the initiatives being undertaken by the organisation to promote women’s involvement in the sector. She said the association was focusing on skill development programmes, green building practices and water conservation initiatives.
During the event, real estate consultancy Square Yards unveiled its report titled Square Yards Green Living Index.
The index introduces a 100-point framework to assess residential projects based on factors such as resource efficiency, health and comfort, safety and resilience, and connectivity.
