Windsor's unemployment rate falls again in June
But labour force particpation is also down, according to Workforce WindsorEssex
Windsor’s unemployment rate crept down once again in June, according to new data from Statistics Canada.
It sat at a seasonally adjusted three-month moving average of eight per cent last month, down from 8.2 per cent in May.
Windsor had the fifth highest unemployment rate in the country, tied with Chilliwack, B.C.
Approximately 600 fewer people were unemployed in Windsor in June compared to May, the data showed.
But the number of people who were neither working nor actively looking for work in the city grew by around 1,600 over the same time period, according to Workforce WindsorEssex’s June labour force report.
The number of people employed in the city actually fell by around 400, the Statistics Canada data shows.
Across Canada, the unemployment rate fell by a tenth of a percentage point to 6.5 per cent, with youth unemployment dropping by 0.7 percentage points, and unemployment among people 55 and older rising by 0.2 percentage points.
In Ontario, the unemployment rate was seven per cent, unchanged from May.
