Water supply fully restored at Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport says water has fully returned after some passengers were left without supplies because of a burst main in a nearby field.

The issue started on Friday and SES Water said it found a burst main in Horley, with parts of the airport left without water as a result and some toilets having to close.

Shortly before 10:45 BST on Saturday, Gatwick said supplies had fully returned and all its facilities were open as normal.

"We recognise the inconvenience caused by yesterday's water shortage and thank passengers for their patience and understanding," a spokesperson added.

Flights remained unaffected by the disruption, the airport said.

Some toilets in the airport's North Terminal were closed, but the toilets in the South Terminal were unaffected.

Food outlets in the North Terminal remained open, but only for seating.

Anthony Rochester, head of networks at SES Water, had said it was working with Gatwick Airport to ensure water returned to the site.

The issues come after a major supply outage in July saw passengers face long queues for toilets at the West Sussex airport, with restaurants and bars also closing.
