Wadi Jeddah to Launch $10 Million Venture Fund to Back Saudi Startups
Set to open in early 2027, the fund will back Saudi startups and select international companies entering the local market.
Wadi Jeddah, the investment arm of King Abdulaziz University, is preparing to launch a $10 million venture fund at the start of 2027 to invest in startups across Saudi Arabia and select international companies seeking to enter the local market.
The fund will invest in companies both within and outside the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, with a focus on earlier-stage ventures. Part of the capital will come from Wadi Jeddah, with additional commitments expected from private sector investors, individuals and investment institutions.
The vehicle is intended to help startups bridge the period between product development and commercial growth, often referred to as the “valley of death”. Wadi Jeddah also plans to expand the fund over time and double its size within ten years.
Alongside the fund, Wadi Jeddah has allocated SAR 1 million to 10 startups currently in its incubator, with each receiving SAR 100,000. The cohort spans artificial intelligence, health and biotechnology, food technologies, smart cities and sustainability, and will also receive incubation, mentorship and support in refining their business models and preparing for investment.
Wadi Jeddah is also expanding its investments in pharmaceuticals and knowledge technologies. One example is Teriak for Pharmaceutical Industries, which emerged from research at King Abdulaziz University and now has 13 pharmaceutical products in the Saudi market.
