Air Canada cancels 5 major long

Air Canada is cutting several long-haul routes for 2027, including flights from Canada to India, the UAE, Singapore and Algeria.

According to a report by Travel Pulse, several of the routes had already been suspended for 2026.

While some of the routes were expected to return in 2027, Air Canada has now confirmed that flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, Singapore and Algiers will not return as planned.

Which routes is Air Canada cancelling?

According to aviation site Simple Flying, Air Canada will not resume its Calgary–Delhi and Toronto–Mumbai flights in 2027.

The routes previously operated as winter seasonal fifth-freedom services via London Heathrow. Air Canada had operated a nonstop Toronto–Mumbai service until March 2025, when the airline was forced to reroute the flight through the U.K. after Russian airspace became unavailable following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Air Canada is also dropping its Vancouver–Dubai route, which has not operated since March 2025.

The route was part of Air Canada’s codeshare partnership with Emirates, allowing passengers to book connections through Dubai to destinations across the Emirates network on a single ticket.

According to Simple Flying, booking data from the route’s final season showed that India, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka were the five most popular countries for Vancouver passengers travelling via Dubai.

Air Canada will instead consolidate its Dubai service through Toronto. However, Toronto–Dubai flights are currently suspended until March 2027 amid geopolitical tensions in the region.

Vancouver is losing another major international route, with Air Canada set to end its Vancouver–Singapore service in January 2027.

The route is currently Air Canada’s longest flight and the airline’s only nonstop service between Canada and Singapore. Travellers between Western Canada and Southeast Asia will still have plenty of one-stop options through major Asian hubs including Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo.

Air Canada said the Vancouver–Singapore route did not meet the business targets required to remain sustainable after nearly three years of investment from the airline and its partners, according to Singapore’s The Straits Times.

Air Canada will continue to operate nonstop flights from Vancouver to Bangkok, maintaining a direct link between Western Canada and Southeast Asia.

According to Aeroroutes, the route was initially suspended for 2026 after its seasonal service ended in March 2025. It had been expected to return in June 2027 but has now been removed from Air Canada’s schedule.

The cancellation leaves Montréal–Casablanca as Air Canada’s only nonstop route to Africa.

What does this mean for Air Canada travellers?

The latest cancellations mean fewer nonstop options from Canada to several major international destinations, particularly for travellers departing from Vancouver and Montréal. However, passengers will still be able to reach these destinations through Air Canada’s remaining network and connecting hubs.
