Vodacom, Bridge for Billions partner to boost startup ecosystem

Vodacom Tanzania has entered into a three-year partnership with global entrepreneurship network Bridge for Billions to expand the reach of its Vodacom Digital Accelerator (VDA) and strengthen support for startups and entrepreneurs across the country.

Under the partnership, the two organisations aim to reach more than1,000 entrepreneurs, support over40 ventures to scale, and build the capacity of entrepreneurship support organisations (ESOs), including incubators, innovation hubs, universities and business development organisations.

The partnership represents a shift in the VDA's approach, moving beyond direct support for individual startups to strengthening the wider ecosystem that helps entrepreneurs develop and grow their businesses. Through the agreement, Bridge for Billions will provide its incubation methodology, digital platform and expertise in building the capacity of ESOs to VDA partners across Tanzania. Selected organisations will receive structured training, programme design support and access to Bridge for Billions' digital tools, as well as opportunities to connect with a global network of mentors and peer organisations. Entrepreneurs recruited through participating ESOs will undertake a structured incubation programme, with high-potential ventures progressing to more intensive acceleration and investment-readiness support. The partnership is expected to strengthen the support infrastructure available to Tanzanian entrepreneurs, particularly by equipping organisations that work with founders on a day-to-day basis. This could enable the benefits of the programme to extend beyond individual cohorts, creating stronger and more sustainable pathways for entrepreneurs seeking mentorship, market access, technology and investment. Launched in 2019, the Vodacom Digital Accelerator has supported startups operating in sectors including healthcare, agriculture, education and financial services. The programme has connected entrepreneurs with mentorship, technology, business networks and funding as part of efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Tanzania. Vodacom said the new three-year commitment would build on that experience by transforming the accelerator from a season-based programme into a longer-term investment in Tanzania's entrepreneurship ecosystem. The initiative comes at a time when access to finance, business development expertise and market opportunities remain important challenges for startups and small businesses seeking to scale. By strengthening the organisations supporting entrepreneurs, the partnership could also help create a more coordinated pipeline of businesses capable of progressing from early-stage ideas to investment-ready ventures. The first cohort of participating ESOs is expected to be announced inOctober 2026, while applications for entrepreneurs are scheduled to open inlate September 2026.

The partnership between Vodacom Tanzania and Bridge for Billions therefore places ecosystem development at the centre of the next phase of the VDA, with the ultimate objective of helping more Tanzanian businesses move beyond the startup stage and achieve sustainable growth.
