Views sought on measures to tackle rowdy behaviour

Residents of a Surrey town are being asked for their views on measures which have been rolled out to tackle rowdy behaviour.

A survey has been launched by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council to help review the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) covering Redhill town centre.

PSPOs aim to tackle anti-social behaviour in public areas and give police officers and the council extra powers to intervene early.

James Baker, the council's deputy leader, said: "Redhill is a thriving and vibrant town and we want to ensure it stays that way."

The Redhill town centre PSPO covers the pedestrianised shopping area, Redhill Memorial Park and the area around the pedestrian railway underpass.

In 2023, the area covered by the PSPO was extended to include Clarendon Road car park where there had been reports of antisocial behaviour.

The controlled behaviours listed in the PSPO are intended to cover a range of antisocial behaviour.

They include threatening violence, being verbally abusive, urinating in an open public place, littering, or spitting with the intent to cause harassment alarm or distress.

People have until 23 August to respond to the survey.
