Langley’s Morgan Reimer earned the win on the mound, allowing just two runs over four innings while striking out five as Team Canada improved to 3-0 in tournament play.
Team Canada continues round-robin play on Thursday (July 9) with a pair of key matchups against Czechia at 1 p.m. and China at 6 p.m. at Softball City.
Canada Cup also celebrated with its annual Parade of Athletes, bringing together teams from across Canada and around the globe in a celebration of sport, culture and international friendship.
Canada Cup Chair Greg Timm welcomed participants by highlighting the tournament’s long-standing commitment to unity, sportsmanship and the development of young athletes, while recognizing the hundreds of volunteers who make the event possible each year, the release noted. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and South Surrey–White Rock MP Ernie Klassen, who joined athletes, coaches and fans in celebrating one of Canada’s premier international sporting events.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came when Team New Zealand gathered on the infield to perform the traditional Haka ahead of its evening matchup against Team Canada, earning a massive ovation from the gathered crowd.
