US Open: Su Li Yang Ends Chouhan’s Dream Run

Indian teen qualifier Rounak Chouhan’s sensational run at the YONEX US Open 2026 came to an end in the semifinals at the hands of eighth seed Su Li Yang.

Chouhan won his two qualifying round matches and then took down No.74 Sankar Subramanian before causing the upset of the tournament beating world No.6 Chou Tien Chen 21-17 26-24. The 19-year-old then held off Misha Zilberman 23-21 21-11 before eventually running out of steam in the semifinals against No.46 Su, 21-17 21-19.

“The key was to stay patient and be focussed on the court,” said Su.”It has been a long time since I’ve been in a World Tour Super 300 semifinal. We both were nervous, so it was about staying focussed.

However, there was positive news for India earlier in the day with Chouhan’s senior compatriot Kidambi Srikanth making the final beating fourth seed Yudai Okimoto in a close encounter 22-20 15-21 21-19.

In women’s singles, Line Christophersen made her first final since the Macau Open last August, beating Thailand Masters champion Devika Sihag with a come-from-behind effort. The Dane shook off the opening game loss and made her way past Sihag 15-21 21-11 21-15.

In the final she takes on Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova, who made her first Super 300 final beating Canada’s Rachel Chan 21-11 21-13.

» Chinese Taipei gave themselves a shot at winning all three paired events. The mixed doubles will be an all-Chinese Taipei affair between Wu Hsuan-Yi/Yang Chu Yun and Liu Kuang Heng/Hsu Yin-Hui.

» In women’s doubles, Sumire Nakade/Miyu Takahashi take on Lin Chih-Chun/Yang Chu Yun, while in men’s doubles, Hiroki Okamura/Kyohei Yamashita face Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh.
