Trump Announces New US Artificial Intelligence Forces, Citing Competition With China

The announcement offers few operational details, while the president links the initiative to a broader contest with China over technological leadership.

Donald Trump announced the creation of the United States AI Force on September 19. He said that the head of the new agency would be appointed soon.

The US president wrote about this on the Truth Social platform. Trump said the new structure was being created along the lines of the US Space Force, which was established in 2019 during his first presidential term.

I am creating an AI Force, just as I created the Space Force, which achieved tremendous success during my first presidential term. I will announce its leader in the near future.

Trump called artificial intelligence a new industrial revolution

Trump also called artificial intelligence “a new industrial revolution.” He said that in the future, the technology could account for 25% of the US gross domestic product.

We are ahead of China and the rest of the world, and I intend to keep it that way!

Trump had previously dismissed concerns that artificial intelligence could get out of control, calling them exaggerated. He made the statement after the heads of Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX urged a more cautious approach to developing the technology because of potential security risks.

Trump did not provide details about the structure, powers, or operating procedures of the new AI Force.
