The City of Trail is inviting residents to celebrate Canada Day at Gyro Park on Wednesday, July 1.

Canada is marking its 159th birthday, and the city planning a fun-filled day with free face painting and balloon creations for youngsters, a Trail Legion barbecue, as well as delicious kettle corn and a concession courtesy of Trail Rotary.

Opening ceremonies will start at noon and go until 12:30 p.m., featuring the national anthem, Canada Day cake and a dance performance, followed by live music by Jason Thomas.

A chess tournament is also planned and starts at 11 a.m., pre-registration is required.

“Whether you’re coming for the food, the festivities, or to test your skills in the chess tournament, there’s something for everyone,” the city says.

The event is a family-friendly and picnic-style, so bring a lawn chair, gather your friends and family, and celebrate Canada Day at the park.

The Rossland museum is also celebrating Canada Day with a line-up of activities, opening ceremony, community groups, cake, and live music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Check out the games, crafts, and a bouncy house, enjoy delicious food, and settle in for the show.

The ceremony starts at noon, with an address by Mayor Andy Morel, the singing of O Canada, and, of course, cake.

Admission is free, though donations are welcomed.
