These festivals, fairs and concerts are coming to Oregon this summer

The official start of summer is just weeks away, kicking off months of festivals, fairs and community celebrations as the weather gets warmer and people head outside.

There's plenty of festivities to fill your summer as Portland's iconic celebrations return, including the Rose Festival, the Waterfront Blues Festival and much more.

From live music to parades and fairs, here are some of the big events to check out this summer.

When: Starts May 22, with various events happening through JuneWhere: Various locations in PortlandWhat: For more than a century, the Portland Rose Festival has brought people together for dozens of events celebrating. The fun kicks off on Friday with CityFair, bringing carnival rides, food, games and live performances to Tom McCall Waterfront Park. One of the main festival traditions are the parades: colorful floats will march through streets for the Junior Parade and the newly merged Grand Floral Starlight Parade. Meanwhile, Fleet Week at the waterfront gives people an up-close glimpse of vessels from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy.Click here for more info

When: Saturday, June 20, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.Where: Parade starts at King Elementary School, festival held at Lillis-Albina ParkWhat: The Clara Peoples Freedom Trail Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at King Elementary School. It'll march down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and will end at Lillis-Albina Park on North Flint and North Russell, where the festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. Juneteenth, officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom — more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.Click here for more info

When: July 2-4Where: Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Main festival entry is at 1400 Southwest Naito Parkway, PortlandWhat: Known as one of downtown Portland's largest and longest-running music festivals, local musical legends join artists from around the world to celebrate the blues, soul, funk and R&B. This year's Waterfront Blues Festival lineup includes soul-rock groups from Louisiana like The Revivalists, Tank and The Bangas, and Seratones. Portland's very own The Norman Sylvester Band and Ural Thomas & The Pain will also perform, alongside many more musicians.Click here for more info

When: July 18-19Where: Tom McCall Waterfront ParkWhat: June is Pride Month, but to avoid overlapping with other significant cultural events in the Rose City, festivities are held in July. The Portland Pride Waterfront Festival and Parade is one of the largest donation-based LGBTQIA2S+ events on the West Coast, according to organizers. There's food, a maker's market and live entertainment to enjoy at the festival. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 19. It'll start at Northwest Broadway and Northwest Davis and will end at Southwest Harvey Milk Street and Naito Parkway.Click here for more info

When: August-September, every Wednesday-Sunday and Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.Where: 995 Northwest 22nd Avenue, CanbyWhat: At Swan Island Dahlias, stroll through nearly 50 acres of colorful fields with more than 375 varieties of dahlias. Visitors can also enjoy treats from food carts and live music on the weekends.Click here for more info

When: Every weekend in JuneWhere: Clackamas County Fairgrounds, 694 Northeast 4th Avenue, CanbyWhat: Take a trip back in time to enjoy historical demonstrations and a knighting ceremony, cosplay, performers, and food, drink and crafts.Click here for more info

When: Sunday, June 21Where: Veterans Memorial Coliseum: 300 N Ramsay Way, PortlandWhat: Portland's first Black rodeo, the Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo pays tribute to cowboy and cowgirl traditions. The origin of Black cowboys began during slavery. By the 1800s, historians estimated one in four cowboys were Black, according to the event creator, Ivan McClellan. Spectators can watch the riders and enjoy food, line dancing and live beats.Click here for more info

When: July 10-12, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.Where: Veneta, about 15 miles west of EugeneWhat: With its history going back to 1960, the annual fair packs entertainment, handmade crafts and food over the course of three days on a 500-acre outdoor venue. Tickets are required.Click here for more info

When: Sunday, Aug. 9Where: Various routes and bridge crossings in PortlandWhat: Billed as one of the largest community bike rides in the world, bicyclists and walkers have the unique chance to explore Portland's bridges on car-free streets. Click here for more info

When: Aug. 28-Sept. 7Where: Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center: 2330 17th Street Northeast, SalemWhat: The Oregon State Fair returns with carnival rides and plenty of fair food, livestock and small animal exhibits, plus crafts and agriculture shows. Music lovers can also catch the fair's concert series. The Beach Boys, BigXThaPlug and Weird Al are among this year's performers. Tickets are required and on sale now.Click here for more info

When: Saturday, June 20Where: Cannon Beach, OregonWhat: For the past six decades years, sandcastle enthusiasts of all ages have put their skills on full display, building works of art made from sand. Aside from the friendly competition, participants and visitors can also enjoy music and food with the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.Click here for more info
