Taiwan showcases AI golf tech in Palau

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Institute for Information Industry announced on Monday the promotion of AI-powered golf training technologies in Palau, signaling a push to export integrated smart sports solutions overseas, supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

III said that the initiative aligns with Taiwan’s Sports x Technology Action Plan to integrate R&D, field testing, and commercialization.

The III partnered with Wu Fong Golf Course for venue management and local collaboration. Golf tech firms like Golface presented a smart cart equipped with AI-powered managerial capabilities such as pathfinding and match supervision.

The Digital Transformation Institute developed an AI virtual golf coach that analyzes swing footage, simulator data, and sensor inputs to recommend optimal motion and posture. The system converts swing path, center of gravity, and joint angles into visual feedback by a mobile application, supporting training workflows.

The second system is an AI golf fitness assessment that uses computer vision to standardize physical evaluations. The system assesses players' movements and limitations to generate training plans for optimal performance at minimal risk.

The exhibition was organized by Taiwan’s embassy in Palau and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. Organizers said the applications can also be applied to tourism and fitness training.

III said strong public interest results indicate that the action plan is working. III added that continued cross-sector backing will help diversify smart sports services for global markets.
