Siri AI in iOS 27 Can Be Replaced by ChatGPT or Claude

Siri AI is said to be prepared by Apple so that it can be replaced or expanded with other artificial intelligence models such as Claude and ChatGPT. Findings on the beta version code of iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate show that users will later be able to choose alternative artificial intelligence models to handle certain requests.

The findings come from a developer using the pseudonym "pdfu". He found a number of code references indicating the integration of alternative artificial intelligence models into the Siri AI. In the demonstration shared, Claude can even be seen being used through the Siri AI interface.

The feature is not yet officially available to general users. However, the code found indicates that Apple has prepared a mechanism that allows other models to connect to the Siri system.

This concept has similarities with the way ChatGPT has been used as a Siri extension since 2024. When Siri can't answer a particular request, users can give permission for the request to be forwarded to ChatGPT.

However, the newly discovered mechanism is said to have a wider scope. Claude and ChatGPT can appear in the "Ask..." menu on Siri so that users can choose which artificial intelligence model they want to use.

According to "pdfu", the link uses the Delegation API Model contained in App Intents. When Claude is used, the response given will have the "Claude" tag, but it will still be displayed using the new Siri AI interface.

The system is also designed so that the AI Siri still handles requests that require direct interaction with the operating system. For example, when a user asks Claude to do something that requires interaction with iOS or macOS, such as setting an alarm, the request can be forwarded back to the AI Siri to be completed.

With this mechanism, the Siri AI remains a model that has access to user personal data, while alternative models can be used for specific tasks that are considered more appropriate for its capabilities.

In addition to integration as an additional option, the findings also show the possibility of ChatGPT replacing Siri AI more thoroughly.

In one demonstration, ChatGPT can be set as the default model for all artificial intelligence requests. In this scenario, the response is no longer from the Siri AI, but ChatGPT can still access the system functions.

The two demonstrations shown are said to run on a Mac computer. This is relevant because OpenAI has previously added the ability for ChatGPT to control the Messages app on a Mac under certain conditions.

Similar capabilities on the iPhone face tighter security restrictions from Apple. Therefore, demonstrations on the Mac have not automatically shown that the same mechanism will be available on the iPhone.

Even so, the code references and demonstrations are said to be part of Apple's own work and seem to have worked, although they are still hidden from the general public.

If implemented officially, the approach could give users more choice in determining the artificial intelligence model used through Apple devices. Siri AI can still handle functions closely related to the operating system, while models such as ChatGPT or Claude can be selected for specific needs.

However, there is no certainty that all the capabilities found in the beta code will be available in the final version of iOS 27 or macOS Golden Gate. Apple has also not officially announced that users will be able to replace Siri AI entirely with a third-party artificial intelligence model.
