Richard Valtr, founder of Mews, joins the EU-Startups Summit 2027
We’re excited to announce that Richard Valtr, Founder of Mews, will join us at the EU-Startups Summit 2027, taking place on May 13-14 in sunny Malta! Richard will join for a fireside chat, sharing lessons from his journey from hotel development and operations to building and scaling a global technology company.
Richard is an entrepreneur and former hotelier who has spent more than a decade rethinking how technology can improve the hospitality industry.
As the founder of Mews, he has helped build one of Europe’s most prominent hospitality technology companies, creating tools designed to make hotel operations more seamless while improving the experience for both hoteliers and guests.
Richard studied at University College London (UCL) before returning to his native Czech Republic, where he worked on a number of property developments. He recieved first-hand hospitality experience woorking night shifts at The Emblem Hotel; his family’s hotel. This experience motivated him to modernise the industry, exposing him to the limitations of the legacy software systems used across the industry.
Seeing that hotel technology had failed to keep pace with the changing needs of both properties and their guests, Richard founded Mews in 2012. What began as an attempt to build a better property management system has since evolved into a broader hospitality operating system designed to connect operations, payments, revenue, and the guest journey.
Under Richard’s vision, Mews has grown rapidly across the global hospitality sector. In January 2026, the company raised €255 in Series D funding, valuing Mews at €2.1 billion. By February 2026, the company reported serving around 15,000 properties across 85 countries, underlining the scale of its growth from its origins in a Prague hotel.
He continues to play an active role in shaping Mews’ long-term vision while contributing to wider conversations about technology, AI, guest experience, and the future of hospitality.
On May 13-14, 2027, we’ll be bringing the European startup ecosystem together once again for the EU-Startups Summit in sunny Malta. We’re expecting around 2,500 founders, investors, startup enthusiasts, and ecosystem players for two packed days of networking, inspiration, and learning.
The event will showcase many of Europe’s hottest startups and bring attendees face-to-face with some of the most successful entrepreneurs and innovators of our time. With inspiring keynotes, fireside chats, workshops, a buzzing exhibition hall, and plenty of opportunities to make valuable connections, it is set to be another unmissable edition.
