Regulator suspends B.C Realtor's licence, cites 'urgent circumstances'

Time required to conduct investigation, hearing 'would be detrimental to the public interest,' regulator says

British Columbia's superintendent of real estate has suspended the licence of a Metro Vancouver Realtor and her personal real estate corporation.

The B.C. Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) issued the "order in urgent circumstances" against Rimpy Hothi and the Rimpy Hothi Personal Real Estate Corporation on Friday.

Under the order, Hothi is suspended from all licensed real estate activity and barred from working as an unlicensed assistant. She must also change the name of her real estate team within 10 days.

CBC News has reached out to Hothi for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Neither a media release or the text of the order issued by the BCFSA provide reasons for the suspension.

The order states that Hothi and her company have engaged in "conduct" that could result in a discipline order under Sec. 43 of B.C.'s Real Estate Services Act.

It goes on to state that "the length of time required to complete an investigation or hold a discipline hearing, or both, would be detrimental to the public interest."

Under the legislation, Hothi has the option to require that officials hold a discipline hearing.

The BCFSA advised Hothi's clients to contact her brokerage, Sutton Group — West Coast Realty for details on how the suspension affects them.

In 2025, the BCFSA issued Hothi an administrative penalty of $4,000 for failing to list her brokerage, personal real estate corporation and real estate team's names on her social media accounts.

The discipline notice also stated that Hothi had "published misleading real estate advertising" by claiming she was a “Top 1% Realtor” or “Top 1% in Greater Vancouver” on her social media accounts.
