POLITICS: Lok Sabha Speaker to Hear Both TMC Factions Before Decision
The political developments surrounding rebel MPs of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have intensified, with the decision on their proposed merger still pending before Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. According to reports, the Speaker will not take any immediate action and has decided to hear both factions before making a final decision. The rebel MPs had earlier met the Speaker seeking approval for their merger with another political formation. However, the faction loyal to TMC leadership has also approached the Speaker, prompting him to seek their views before proceeding further. TMC’s leadership has reportedly communicated its position through an official email, following which Speaker Om Birla invited the party’s representatives for discussions. Parliamentary sources indicate that the Speaker wants to understand the perspectives of both sides to ensure a fair and informed decision. Only after hearing the rival claims and examining the legal and procedural aspects will the Speaker determine the future course regarding the status and merger request of the rebel MPs.
