The Kelowna RCMP are reminding the public to celebrate Canada Day responsibly.
The City of Kelowna and the Kelowna RCMP are expecting a large amount of tourists in the city due to the Touchdown Kelowna event and Canada Day celebrations.
Because of this, the Kelowna RCMP will be having an “increased front-line presence” and will be assisted by RCMP officers from other detachments.
“Expect to see police present throughout downtown, in parks, beaches and at key locations across the city,” said Cpl. Steve Lang, media relations officer for the Kelowna RCMP.
“Our officers will be actively working to keep the community safe through patrols on foot, by bicycle, boat and in vehicles.”
Kelowna residents – especially motorists – are urged to plan ahead as large amounts of traffic are to be expected.
“Anyone who has consumed alcohol or other impairing substances is reminded not to get behind the wheel and instead arrange for a safe ride home,” an RCMP release reads.
“The Canada Day fireworks display is expected to draw large crowds to the waterfront, motorists and attendees are reminded to be patient and celebrate responsibly.”
