Roads closed at Keele Street between The Chimneystack Road and York Boulevard, police said
A 31-year-old man is dead after being struck by a driver in a vehicle in North York early Sunday morning, police said.
Officers responded around 1:45 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian lying on the roadway near Keele Street and Steeles Avenue W., Toronto police said in a post on social media platform X.
In a news release Sunday afternoon, police said a 22-year-old man was driving a 2017 grey Honda Accord northbound on Keele Street when he struck the 31-year-old man laying down in the northbound lanes of Keele Street, in front of 4801 Keele Street.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, located near Keele Street and Canarctic Drive, according to police.
Toronto paramedics confirmed to CBC News that an adult had died and was not transported to hospital.
Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Residents in the area are being urged to take alternate routes due to road closures at Keele Street between The Chimneystack Road and York Boulevard.
The investigation is ongoing, police said in the news release.
