Odia diaspora showcases state’s handloom heritage at Brisbane event

Women in handwoven sarees during the National Handloom Day celebrations in Brisbane, Australia Rourkela: Odisha’s rich handloom heritage took centre stage at the National Handloom Day celebrations hosted by the Consulate of India in Brisbane, Australia, on Friday. On the occasion, members of the Odia diaspora showcased an array of the state’s iconic handwoven sarees.The event celebrated India’s diverse handloom traditions and the artisans who keep them alive. Women from the Odia community displayed a range of traditional weaves, including Sambalpuri, Khandua, Dolabedi, Berhampuri, Bichitrapuri, Kotpad, Pattachitra, Ashwini and Utkal Laxmi sarees, highlighting the state’s centuries-old weaving legacy.The event paid tribute to generations of weavers and artisans who have preserved Odisha’s handloom traditions.
