New Durham firm Invent Group targets growth in artificial intelligence market

A new technology firm has set up shop in Durham with the goal of turning AI concepts into real-world tools.

Invent Group, based at Belmont Business Park, specialises in developing intelligent systems, AI infrastructure, and scalable products for businesses.

Founded by commercial strategist Malcolm Brechin and technologist Sam Whisker, the company's board is completed by chief strategy officer Richard Lowes, a creative director with expertise in brand strategy and business development.

Mr Brechin, co-founder and CEO, said: "The technology space is noisy right now, especially when it comes to AI.

"Organisations' interest in AI is on the rise, which is really exciting, but all too often ideas don't ever become working capabilities.

"Despite this crowded market, I genuinely think we have something different."

The trio, who have a strong record of collaboration, have built a wider network of specialists to help ensure AI ideas become user-ready, resilient solutions.

Invent Group has already developed three products.

Bid King helps organisations create faster, higher-quality tender submissions.

Vericase is an AI-powered legal dispute tool for managing complex casework, and Schools-safe is designed to improve communication within educational settings.

The company is also working with MBA students from East London University to boost its research and development capacity.

Mr Whisker said Invent Group focuses on delivering only viable solutions.

He said: "For centuries, inventors have conceptualised billions of new ideas, but not all can – or should – reach the market.

"We move from investigation to prototype, from prototype to working system, and working system to a market-ready release, only when the opportunity is right.

"Our clients appreciate our independent counsel and honest insight, because that's what delivers sustainable growth for everyone."

Despite their UK-wide experience, the board's North East roots and the region's growing tech sector influenced their decision to base the company in Durham.
