NDP demands answers after videos show Sask. Party MLA flying to government events by private jet

Kevin Weedmark says he paid at his own expense, but Opposition wants proof

The Official Opposition is demanding answers after two videos posted by a person accompanying an MLA showed him using a private jet to fly across Saskatchewan to attend government announcements.

NDP MLA Meara Conway says the video shows someone who is "completely out of touch."

A day-in-the-life-style video was recorded by a person travelling with Saskatchewan Party MLA Kevin Weedmark, who represents Moosomin-Montmartre, by private jet on Aug. 27.

Weedmark is shown throughout the video as the pair travel from Moosomin to Lloydminster to Saskatoon to Regina before returning to Moosomin.

The MLA has since issued a statement through the Saskatchewan Party confirming he chartered a Cessna C560 from a local company. Weedmark says it was arranged at his own personal expense and that no taxpayer dollars were involved.

"It would have been difficult to drive back and forth across the province in time for all the events I had committed to, which included an event in Lloydminster on the other side of Saskatchewan from my constituency," the statement read.

Facebook posts show Weedmark attended a ribbon cutting for 20 new sober living spaces in Lloydminster on Aug. 27.

In Saskatoon, Weedmark made an appearance at an event alongside Minister of Social Services Terry Jenson honouring 40 years of Bethany Manor, a local non-profit.

The NDP released a second video Wednesday, which it says was dated to April 21, 2025, showing Weedmark using a private plane to attend a tour of Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in Saskatoon.

Both videos released by the NDP have since been taken down. Edited versions that obscure the face of the person recording were provided to the media.

The NDP did not identify who created the videos.

The party says the response issued by Weedmark is not good enough and is calling for the MLA to provide receipts showing no public money was used for the flights.

Weedmark has yet to issue a response to that demand.

"You don't get to fly around Saskatchewan... and then leave taxpayers guessing about who picked up the tab," Conway said during a news conference Tuesday.

Conway said the second video shows that Weedmark using the private jet was not just a "one-off" and that it appears to be "part of a pattern."

The Saskatchewan Party and the provincial government did not respond to requests for an interview with Weedmark.

CBC News did not receive a response to a detailed list of questions it sent to the party and the province.
