The World Cup excitement continues in downtown Detroit as soccer fans are expected to gather for a watch party featuring the United States’ Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The World Soccer Celebration will take place at Campus Martius Park in partnership with the Downtown Detroit Partnership and Detroit City FC.
The match is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Fans must have a free ticket to attend.

A former corrections officer who served six months in jail for having sex with an inmate in her care and buying him a gold chain is due back in court this week after allegedly violating the terms of her probation.
Cara Wozniak, 36, of Milan, pleaded guilty in September 2024 to having sexual contact with a ward while working at FCI Milan and providing the inmate with contraband. She was sentenced in February 2025 to six months in jail followed by one year of supervised release, during which she was ordered to have no contact with the inmate. However, court documents filed last month show that Wozniak violated those terms.

CEO Aaron Johnson sent a letter to residents on Wednesday, July 1, outlining the progress so far on Priority Waste’s recovery plan after numerous communities across Metro Detroit experienced service delays and collection disruptions.
“Our objective is not simply to restore service, but to build a stronger, more reliable company than the one that existed before,” said Johnson. “We will continue to communicate openly, share our progress, and hold ourselves accountable for delivering measurable results.”
Animal control officers from multiple agencies are continuing efforts to rescue dozens of cats from a Redford Township home after authorities declared the property an imminent danger to public health.
Redford Township Animal Control responded to a home in the 20000 block of Gaylord Street on Wednesday (June 24) after receiving a welfare check request.
Officers found what officials described as deplorable living conditions. The homeowner was located and transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment.
A prolonged stretch of dangerous heat and humidity continues to grip Metro Detroit with near-record temperatures expected through Thursday before a more active weather pattern arrives heading into the holiday weekend.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Thursday as afternoon high temperatures soar into the mid to upper 90s. When combined with oppressive humidity, heat index values will climb to 105 degrees or higher, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.
