Michael Burry Mocks Need for a Humanoid Robotics 'ChatGPT Moment,' Says AI's Biggest Breakthrough Was Mak
Burry Says ChatGPT Already Had AI’s Biggest Breakthrough
Burry was responding to a Nikkei report quoting a senior executive at Chinese humanoid robot maker AgiBot, who said the robotics industry remains two to five years away from a “GPT moment”.
Burry questioned whether humanoid robots needed such a defining moment at all, saying ChatGPT had already become AI’s biggest mass-adoption event by making “cheating in school a literal no-brainer.”
He added that nothing could spread faster or have a greater impact than technology capable of “turning off the brains of all students across the world in one instant.”
Tesla, Nvidia, Samsung And Hyundai Are Betting Big On Humanoids
The world’s largest technology and automotive companies are pouring billions into humanoid robotics, betting the technology could become AI’s next major commercial opportunity.
Samsung Electronics has also stepped up its robotics ambitions by creating a dedicated robotics division and hiring a former Hyundai Motor Co robotics executive to lead the business and expand investments in physical AI.
Hyundai, meanwhile, took full ownership of Boston Dynamics as it prepares to deploy Atlas humanoid robots in manufacturing later this decade.
Wall Street Sees Humanoids As AI’s Next Trillion-Dollar Opportunity
Last month, Morgan Stanley doubled its forecast for humanoid robot shipments in China this year to 50,000 units and estimates the sector could ultimately grow into a roughly $5 trillion global opportunity by 2050.
Goldman Sachs has also raised its expectations for the industry, forecasting the global humanoid robot market could reach about $38 billion by 2035 as advances in AI accelerate commercialization.
Price Action: Tesla closed 2.53% higher on Tuesday at $378.93, while the stock has lost 0.41% in pre-market trading on Wednesday at the time of writing.
