Man killed in crash 'made the world feel kinder'
A man killed in a car crash was "the kind of person who made the world feel bigger, wider and kinder simply by being in it", his family have said.
Pete Faulkner was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision between the Dacia he was driving and another vehicle on the A66, near Thornthwaite, in the Keswick area, shortly after 01:00 BST on Saturday.
The 45-year-old father of two, who was from Cockermouth, was described as a "loving and devoted partner and Dad" and a "much-loved son... and brother".
In a statement released through Cumbria Police, his family said he was also a "fell runner extraordinaire".
The statement said that he "loved moving across ridges, high ground and scree slopes coping with any challenge with grit and determination - especially when there was cake or ice cream at the end.
"He was a supportive friend and colleague to so many people," the family said.
"He approached every challenge with creativity, tenacity and a great sense of humour.
"He was the kind of person who made the world feel bigger, wider and kinder simply by being in it."
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Officers have launched an investigation and are calling for witnesses to contact them.
