Man facing multiple charges after domestic dispute in Cobden

A 48-year-old man from Chapeau, Que., is facing a long list of criminal charges, including assault with a weapon and forcible confinement, following what Ontario Provincial Police described as a domestic dispute in Cobden on Friday.

According to an OPP news release, officers from the Renfrew detachment responded to a report of a dispute between two individuals shortly after 8 p.m. on June 19.

The man was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing in court. Besides assault with a weapon and forcible confinement, the charges against the man include: assault; uttering threats; dangerous operation of a vehicle; careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; unauthorized possession of a firearm; careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order; and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The OPP said the man's name would not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

Cobden is a bit more than 100 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
