Man, 35, charged in random stabbing near human rights museum, Winnipeg police say

Victim in his 20s assaulted while waiting for bus Saturday evening

A man has been arrested after what Winnipeg police say was a random stabbing near the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Saturday.

Officers responded to the incident just after 6:30 p.m., police said in a release Sunday.

A man in his 20s was waiting for the bus at a stop on Israel Asper Way when he was stabbed by someone who appeared unexpectedly, the release said.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. Winnipeg police said the suspect fled but was found a short time later in the nearby Forks Market area.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order. Police said he remained in custody.
