Police say there is no evidence of foul play
An inmate died Wednesday night inside P.E.I.’s main jail
The death of an inmate in their 50s at a P.E.I. provincial corrections facility is under investigation by RCMP, according to a news release.
Police were called at around 5:15 a.m. Thursday after the person was “discovered unresponsive during routine inmate checks,” the release reads.
“Emergency medical assistance was sought; however, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
RCMP are called in to investigate on behalf of the coroner’s office any time there’s a death involving a prisoner in a correctional facility. Police say there’s no evidence of foul play at this time.
