In Novolukoml, Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz consecrated an icon created by artificial intelligence
The icon depicts — Carlo Acutis — an Italian teenager who spread the Catholic faith through the internet and became the first millennial saint.
On October 11, in the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Novolukoml, Archbishop Emeritus Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz blessed a new icon of Saint Carlo Acutis, reports Katolik.life.
Parish priest Father Mikalai Lipski revealed during the online broadcast of the mass that the image was specially created using artificial intelligence.
The icon was placed in a side altar. It will serve as a cover for the icon of the parish's main patroness — Saint Mary Magdalene.
According to the parish priest, the images of these two saints connect the Gospel history of the 1st century with the needs of the modern digital world.
Carlo Acutis created an online catalog of Eucharistic miracles and used the internet to spread the Catholic faith. He died at the age of 15, and was canonized in 2025. He is called the patron of youth and the internet.
As Katolik.life writes, some believers on social media criticized the parish's initiative. They claim that an image generated by artificial intelligence cannot be considered an icon and should not be prayed before.
