Goita Barcelona: an artificial intelligence agent for cultural discovery

BarcelonaEdició de Premsa Periòdica Ara SL develops Goita Barcelona, an artificial intelligence agent from Diari ARA designed to help users discover cultural, gastronomic, and leisure plans in Barcelona based on selected sources, context, and editorial criteria.

Goita transforms scattered information – cultural agenda, journalistic content, gastronomic recommendations, open data, and verified external sources – into a conversational discovery experience. The objective is to make it easier for readers to find relevant proposals according to the time, location, type of plan, and their preferences.

The system combines content from ARA, especially from the Culture and Mengem sections, with selected external sources and open data, and uses generative artificial intelligence, information retrieval, and semantic search technologies to offer contextualized and verifiable responses.

Goita does not replace journalistic judgment, but rather acts as a new entry point to ARA's editorial value: it connects sources, context, and judgment to help the reader decide what to do.

The project's main objective is to integrate artificial intelligence into the value chain of the newspaper ARA through a tool that allows:

This initiative is developed within the framework of the Cultural Agenda Chatbot project, with expediente number TSI-100140-2025-14, beneficiary of the aid for the integration of artificial intelligence in the value chains of the media, convened by the State Secretariat for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA) of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function.

The project has a financiable budget of 471,434 euros and a proposed subsidy of 235,717 euros, equivalent to 50% of the financiable budget.
