Gemini is More Human
Google is reportedly developing a new feature that allows users to set how Gemini speaks according to their preferences. No longer just choosing a male or female voice, users will be able to customize the AI's character and speech style through a number of more detailed settings.
The feature was found in an analysis of the beta version of the Google app code 17.41.12 by the 9to5Google team. Although not yet available to the public, this finding shows Google's development direction which wants to make interactions with AI feel more natural.
Based on the code found, Google is preparing a special menu to manage the Gemini voice characters.
Users can change four main aspects, namely:
Energy (level of energy or spirit),
Formality (level of formality),
The four settings will be available in the form of a slider so that users can adjust them as needed.
For the parameters Energy, Formality, and Warmth, Google provides low, medium, and high level options. Meanwhile, Speed will offer three options, namely slow, normal, and fast.
The setting allows Gemini to have a different character according to user needs. For example, when you want to plan a vacation or have a casual conversation, users can lower the level of formality and increase the warmth so that the conversation feels more familiar.
Conversely, when you need a professional explanation or a summary of the work, the level of formality can be raised so that the answer sounds more official and straightforward. The speaking speed can also be adjusted so that the AI does not speak too fast or too slow.
Google is said to implement the setting not only in the regular conversation mode, but also in Gemini Live.
This means that the voice character you choose will be used consistently when you talk directly to the AI or when using Gemini in everyday conversations.
Thus, the experience of interacting with AI becomes more personal without having to reset it every time you use the service.
Google Wants AI to Feel More Human
This development is part of Google's strategy to make interactions with AI more natural.
At the previous Google I/O event, the company also revealed plans to provide regional dialect support so that Gemini can adjust the style of speech according to the user's language background.
The combination of emotional regulation and dialectical support is expected to make conversations with AI feel more like human-to-human communication.
The appearance of this feature also occurs amid increasingly fierce competition in the AI assistant market. Apple previously introduced similar capabilities in iOS 27 through the Pace and Expressivity settings for Siri.
However, Google's approach seems to be more in-depth because it not only regulates the pace of speech, but also presents parameters such as Warmth and Energy that affect the emotional character of the AI during the conversation.
There is no launch schedule yet.
Until now, Google has not announced when the feature will be officially released. Because it was only found in the beta version of the application, it is still possible that the feature will change before being launched to all users.
However, the presence of this voice customization menu shows that AI competition is no longer only focused on the intelligence of language models, but also on the quality of interaction.
Users increasingly want a digital assistant that not only provides accurate answers, but is also able to speak in a style that is appropriate for the context and personal preferences. By giving control over the speed, formality, energy, and warmth of the voice, Google is trying to make Gemini feel more natural and comfortable to use in a variety of situations.
