Firefighters rescue trapped driver after collision with a train near Fallowfield Station

Woman in her 40s transported to hospital in stable condition: paramedics

Ottawa first responders have rescued a woman in her 40s who was trapped in a vehicle after colliding with a train near VIA Rail’s Fallowfield station on Sunday afternoon, according to Ottawa Fire Services.

A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service told CBC the woman was being transported to hospital in stable condition.

Ottawa Fire Services says they received a call at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday from the Ottawa Police Service about the collision on Fallowfield Road near Woodroffe Avenue.

“Firefighters arrived three minutes after being dispatched and confirmed the heavily damaged vehicle had come to rest approximately 75 feet from the point of impact,” they wrote in a post on social media.

The trapped driver was rescued by firefighters seven minutes after they arrived on scene, using “specialized extrication tools” to remove sections of the wreck, wrote Ottawa Fire Services.

An investigation involving the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Transport Canada and Ottawa police is underway, according to Ottawa Fire Services.

Ottawa police say the railway crossing signals in the area were working properly at the time of the collision and no injuries were reported aboard the train.

As of 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, Fallowfield Road was shut down in both directions between Holitman Drive and Woodroffe Avenue.
