Ethiopia modernises power grid with artificial intelligence and digital technologies
The Ethiopian Electric Utility is carrying out a comprehensive modernisation of the country’s power system and is actively implementing artificial intelligence to create a more reliable and sustainable electricity grid. This was stated by the company’s CEO, Getu Geremew, as reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
He noted that the company is carrying out targeted measures to maximise operational efficiency and the transmission capacity of high-voltage power lines and distribution substations. To reduce power cuts, the organisation is upgrading key network facilities, rehabilitating infrastructure and implementing preventive maintenance of equipment.
Getu Geremew reported that digital technologies and artificial intelligence are being used to predict and diagnose sudden technical faults before they occur, which will ensure a more stable electricity supply.
In parallel with the technical work, the company is implementing internal transformation programmes aimed at improving the speed, efficiency, and quality of customer service.
Efforts are also underway to strengthen staff technical skills and transform repair teams into effective operational units.
It is noted that infrastructure modernisation projects are funded by public funds and with the support of international partners.
