Environment Canada issues tornado warning for parts of central Alberta
The weather agency says thunderstorms producing a potential tornado are moving east
Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for parts of central Alberta Friday afternoon.
The warning was issued at 6:14 p.m., for parts of Parkland County, located about 57 kilometres west of Edmonton.
The warning said thunderstorms producing a potential tornado are near Wabamun Lake, and are moving eastward at 40 km/h.
Environment Canada said the situation is dangerous and possibly life-threatening, and asks people who are in the affected areas to find shelter and take cover immediately.
This comes after the weather agency put out a slew of tornado warnings over the past three days. One of those tornados touched down in Dillberry Lake Provincial Park Wednesday evening, sending three people to the hospital.
An Environment Canada meteorologist told CBC News that Alberta can expect more tornado related activity in the next six weeks.
