ECOWAS to award top three West African startups with US$65,000 in seed funding

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to showcase 60 of West Africa’s most promising startups at the second edition of the ECOWAS Startup Awards in Abuja, Nigeria.

The 10-day programme is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 30, bringing together startups, investors, business leaders and development partners.

The initiative will highlight innovative businesses working across key sectors including FinTech, HealthTech, AgriTech, EdTech, CleanTech, Climate Innovation and Tourism Tech.

In a news release shared on Monday, the regional bloc said the programme will feature virtual masterclasses, pitching sessions, exhibitions, networking opportunities and an awards ceremony.

According to ECOWAS, the initiative is aimed at promoting digital transformation, strengthening regional integration and expanding market access for startups across West Africa.

The top three startups will receive seed funding of US$30,000, US$20,000 and US$15,000 respectively.

The programme also seeks to facilitate up to US$5 million in deals across the various thematic tracks, providing participating startups with opportunities to connect with potential investors and business partners.
